Tornio City Council
The City Council exercises the highest authority in the City. It decides on the City’s budget and financial plan, and is responsible for its operations and finances. In addition, the City Council decides on matters such as the city’s strategy and administrative regulations, municipal and property tax rates, principles of ownership steering, principles of financial management, financing, asset management and investment activities, and general principles concerning charges for services and other procedures. The City Council also chooses the members and vice members of Committees.
The Tornio City Council has 43 Councilors. The number of Councilors is based on the population of Tornio. The Councilors and their deputies are elected every four years in municipal elections.
