Tornio is a city of diverse education opportunities
Tornio has a long history as a traditional seat of education since 1630, when a pedagogium was founded in the city. Today, the city’s diverse education and know-how environment facilitates life-long learning. Thanks to its close proximity to Haparanda in Sweden, the city’s educational selection also includes a broad range of bilingual education and training services. The cities of Tornio and Haparanda cooperate in activities such as daycare services and basic education.
Educational services in Tornio also include the Lappia vocational college and the Peräpohjola adult education center, which provide vocational qualifications in fields such as youth and leisure instruction. Higher education in the city is provided by the Lapland University of Applied Sciences. The city has lively adult education and folk high school activities thanks to both the Peräpohjola center and Tornio adult education center.
