Early childhood education and care
Early childhood education and care refers to the systematic and target-oriented overall upbringing, education and care provided for a child, with a particular emphasis on pedagogy. The goal of early childhood education is to support the growth, development and learning and promote the well-being of children.
Early childhood education can be organized in daycare centers, family day care or as another form of early childhood education, such as club or play activities. The current early childhood education and care curriculum in Tornio was adopted on 1 August 2017. An individual early childhood education and care plan is prepared for each child enrolled in daycare centers and family day care.
Each preschool-aged child has the right to receive early childhood education and care. Parents decide on their child’s participation in early childhood education and care. Pre-primary education that prepares children for school is part of early childhood education and care. Participation in pre-primary education is compulsory as of 1 August 2015.
Open early childhood education
Open early childhood education in Tornio is provided at the Family center. Open early childhood education is intended for children in family day care. The activities are aimed at families that do not need daily or full-time early childhood education services. In open early childhood education, children can play and take part in activities, while parents have the opportunity to obtain peer support from other parents.
